TUNNEL WORKERS
The statement'was made by Mr. P. M. Butler at yesterday's:unemployment deputation to the Minister of Labour that men who had come from Australia had been employed on the Mount Victoria tunnel construction work. He submitted that the Gorernment should stop that sort of thing. The work should be made 'available for local unemployed only, and outsiders should: be. prevented from deprivtog local unem* ployed of work which was offering. "We have the most friendly possible outlook and attitude towards Australia," said the Minister ot Labour (the Hon. W. A. Veitch), commenting on Mr. Butler's statement, "but New Zealand cannot take up the load of Australia's unemployed. Whatever we do in the matter of unemployment relief, it will be necessary to make it quite clear that only our own people, can seek relief on relief works.": _
