WELLINGTON TOURNAMENT

Good weather again favoured the croquet tournament yesterday at Lower Hutt and players were able to enjoy the delightful surroundings of Riddiford Park and the Hutt bowling green. Light refreshment is being served by the Waimarie and Hutt clubs. Visitors are loud iiv their, praise of the great hospitality they receive when playing on the Hutt Valley greens. In the champion' doubles" ■"; Mesdames Johnson and N. Smith had a "good win. from Mesdames .Caldow and Henderson, the score ' being ' 26-23. The former, pair were set to, peg but while Mrs. .Caldow s clip was on the peg and her partner s on' rover hoop. Mrs. Caldow picked up their balls and was proceeding to send one out of range so as to lie for her partner to make the last hoop, but as so often occurs now the new rule 38 (B) is in operation, the roqueted ball weut on the peg and Mrs. Caldow's turn ceased with -the other opponent ball not very far from the peg. Mrs. Smith easily got this, winning tlie game. Mrs. Johnson has f been gradually getting back to form, and m one of her games made a perfect three-ball break of nine and a break of eight with the partner ball. Mrs. Gilbert . (Westport), continues her good: play with further breaks of ten * and nine to her credit. Mrs. Rudkin, who is in the second section of the handicap singles, made a pretty break of seven and played goodcroquet, beating Mrs. Pollock without using her bisque. Mrs. Robinson (Eastbourne) played brilliantly against Mrs. Brice, making a break of nine and gave her opponent very few chances. The following games were completed yesterday:— Handicap Singles.—First section, first round: Mrs. Johnson beat Mrs. .Yates, 26-6; Mrs. Heenan beat Mrs. ilendry, 26-15; Mrs. Manton beat Mrs. FlinV 2G-15. Second section, first round: Mrs. Robinson beat Mrs. Brice, 26-6; Mrs. Riidkiu beat Mrs. Pollock, 26-23. Second section, second round: Mrs. Hollard won by .default from Mrs. Kowe; Mrs. Miller beat Mrs. M. Scott," 26-21. Third round: Mrs. Monks beat Mrs Ho.llard, 26-9; Mrs. Pollock beat Mr. A. E. Pollock, 26-14.
