THRONE
(.Received 21st February, 2" p.m.)
OTTAWA, 20th February.
The Dominion Parliament opened on Thursday., The Speech from the Throne stated that 1929 was the most productive year in the history of Canada, with industries other than agriculture recording the highest employment figures in history. The Dominion, is already recovering from the seasonal slackness evident at the end,of the year, and "it is not to be forgotten that the bulk of the 1929 wheat crop still remains in Canadian'hands for final disposal." ,
- Important legislation will be brought down respecting several railway properties formerly privately owned, and now embraced in the Canadian National. Other legislation will make more adequate provisions for the needs of war veterans aud their dependents. A Bill will bo introduced to consolidate the Canada Grain Act, which received much attention last session. The report of the Royal Commission on radio is to be considered. A solution has been sought by a conference on the differences between the Dominion, Ontario, and Quebec respecting water powers. There are hopes that it will, lead to a satisfactory settlement.
