PAVING AT LOWER HUTT
After a, long dc^lay, which was largely ■made necessary iv order to permit of. tlie heavy filling thoroughly consolidating, the paving of the approaches to the traffic bridge at Lower Hutt is well in hand, and the crew will move out next week to the Taita Gorge lengths, thus completing the programme of surfacing under City and- Suburban. Board direction in the Hutt Valley. On the Potonc side of the Hutt bridge a small island is being constructed, with a raised concrete edging, to divide traffic to and from Victoria street and, Railway avenue. The old wooden traffic bridge has been repaired sufficiently to stand a long time as a pedestrian and cycle bridge, though it is closed to motor and cart traffic. The reopening of this old. bridge for this light traffic is welcomed by Hutt people, for, rightly or wrongly, the new bridge is not particularly popular .with walkers and. cyclists, chiefly on account of the crossing of fast Hues of traffic on the Petone sido making for danger. i
