GUARDS ON BRITISH SHIPS
PROPOSED REPLACEMENT
British Official Wireless.
JiUGBY, 18th February
Arrangements have been made for the withdrawal, as from Ist April, of British guards to protect British vessels trading in Chinese waters from attacks by pirates. This will be rendered possible owing to tho operation of a scheme for the formation of a native forco officered by British non-commis-sioned officers, drawn up by the shipping companies trading in the Far East, with a suggestion that the present arrangement as to guards should bo continued for another six mouths to enable the new body, if the scheme bo approved, to be properly trained.
