STILL UNSETTLED
MILDER TEMPERATURES
During Wednesday the -weather wad fair over the greater part of the Dominion, but during the night a slight depression passed rapidly eastwards, and' the winds have become southerly; again generally. The change to southerly was rather sudden on the East Coast, and the wind was fairly strong during tho night. Showers have fallen at various' places, but Arthur's Pass had as much as 112 points, and Puysegur Point 118 points. Auckland had a fine morning, but it became dull during the afternoon, and has remained so since. Tho wind has been southerly; there. Wellington had a fine though windy day yesterday. The northerly, wind changed to southerly in the evening, with the usual accompanying fall in temperature. Christchurch experienced pleasant summer conditions until late yesterday afternoon., At about 6 p.m. a strong "southerly buster" came up, and sinQe then it has been cloudy^ A 9 a.m. a drizzling rain was reported. At Dunedin it was fine in the morning, but dull in the afternoon, with some rain. This morning it was again fine with a little w.jnd.
The forecast is for southerly to south-easterly winds from Cook' Strait northwards, elsewhere south-westerly to south-easterly, moderate to strong generally, but decreasing'in the South Island. The weather is still unsettled, with some showers probable in the North !Auckland, Gisborne, and _ East Cape districts. .Elsewhere there will be a few isolated showers, but soon improving temporarily. Temperatures are likely to becomo milder.
