Playing at Hamilton to-day in beautii'ul weather, bcl'oro a large altoiidanco, South Auckland opened its criukot match against the M.C.C. Tho wicket wtt's in splendid order. Dawson and Pulocpsinhji wore omitlcd from tho Englgisb team, Comford boing twelfth man. Tho local side- won tho lohs and, going iv to bat, were all out for S(J fit 2.55 p.m. When stumps were drawn the Englishmen had lost three wickets for 161. At tho luncheon adjournment South, Auckland had lqst jivo wickets for 50, On resumption Garrard stepped out to Bowley and was caught by Benson; Alter tho luncheon adjournment Skeet, who was joined .by Hawkc,- stepped out to Bowley and lifted him for two sixos. Ilawko was cleaned bowled by Barratt, Patrick replacing him. Skeet, with his contribution-at 26, waa bowled by "Worthington. The tail did not; make a good showing, the innings closing at Bli. - •Bowley and Benson opened.for England and the bowling was taken up by Everest-and Johnston. , With the- scoro at 16 Hawko relieved Everest and with his second ball bowled Benson, but the umpire signalled "no ball." Kuns were coming slowly, the batsmen taking no chances. Bowley had a life when a fast return by Hawke nearly had him Atumpod. At the tea adjournment England had put on 09 for no wickets. Euns continued to come steadily on resumption. With tho total at 72, Patrick replaced Going. Tho batting was much brightor at this stage. South Auckland's total was passed at 5 o'clock without loss. With the score at 95 Bowley was bowled by Hawko, with 48 to his credit. Turnbull followed, contributing' 11 before being given out lbw to a ball from "Winger. Nichols joined Benson, and runs came freely, this partnership bringing 150 up. Benson was brilliantly caught in tho slips by Going with hia tally 76. 'Ho had given a bright display, hitting .out freely. Gilligun joined Nichols, I but stumps we,rc drawn soon, after with 11C1 on for tho loss of three wickets.
