"I have learned, with great iutei'est that a campaign is to be opened this month in .New Zealand to raise, a sum of £50,000 for the 'endowment of a Chair of Midwifery aiul- '-Gy'uaccolpgv in the University of Otago." : --,--. ■*■ " •"I have for many years been deeply concerned in all matters, affecting the welfare^of mothers and children, and I recognise that it. is by the advancement of professional and public knowledge that progress in "this field'can most effectively.:be made.' • • :■■.'■■:■:>■ v :- "It;gives me special pleasure, -therefore, to hear of the proposal to found & professional .. .'.'The gracious messago from Her Majesty the Queen has been received, md communicated to tho President of the Obstetrical Society in connection with the appeal for funds to endow a Chair of Midwifery in the Otago University. On behalf of those concerned, I beg that an expression of respectful gratitude -may bo conveyed to Her Majesty.''
The Minister of Health to-day expressed the gratification of'the Government at the gracious message' received from Her Majesty in connection with the effort being made in this far-flung outpost of Empire to endow a Chair of Midwifery and Gynaecology. . This further evidence o£ the heart interest which Her Majesty the Queen has fop many years taken in all matters affecting the welfare of mothers and- chil. dren, could not, he said, fail in its appeal to her loyal New Zealand subjects.
