RICCARTON TRACK NOTES

CIIRISTCIIURCH, This Day.

The weather was cold for training operations at Riccarton this morning. A light shower fell before 5 o'clock, but did not last long, and after that there was no more rain. The outside of the course proper provided excellent galloping ground, and a few horses went on tlio plough. Some interesting work was done by candidates for the Canterbury Jockey Club's Meeting on Saturday. Gay Crest opened the proceedings by covering six furlongs in lmin 16 3-ssec, finishing in i'ront of Arikiwai, ,who joined in for the last half-mile, which was run in'Slscc. Winsome Hind sprinted half a mile in 49 3-ssec, a useful effort. Don Jose, with Pixie Gold as mate for the last half-mile, covered seven furlongs on the plough in lmin 30 2-5 sec. Don Joso finished on well, and it was a good gallop. Dutch Honey got to tho end of sis furlongs on the plough in .lmin 18 4-5 sec, and was-going well at the end. Starshooter and Netlcy covered six furlongs on the plough in lmin 19 2-5 see. Ball Dress occupied 52see for a halfmile spin up tho back. Courtliko beat Greyfinch over seven furlongs in lmin 30 2-ssec. Courtlike showed a lot of speed in tho early stages, but occupied 52 3-ssec for the last half-mile. Marsham, with Suuny Pal to bring him homo, covered seven furlongs in 1 mm 30 3-ssec. Marsbam appears to have benefited by recent racing. Watcrline and Full Feather were associated over a mile. The first half occupied .52sec, and the full distance 1 mm 45 l-ssee. Waterline had an advantage at tho finish, and appeared to bo going comfortably. He is an improving horse. Honeycomb occupied lmin Msec for six furlongs on the plough. Noteworthy sprinted half a mile up tho back in 50 2-ssec. Jaleux and Pride were companions over six furlongs, which thoy ran in 1 mm 17 1-usec, Jalcux having a slight advantage at the finish. Semper Paratus and Straightcourse kept together throughout a five-furlong spin along the back run in lmin 4 2-ssec. Tho Bailiff beat Hounslow over seven furlongs on tho plough, but the time, lmin 33 l-ssec, was not fast. Meprisant was too good for Gala Day over a mile, finishing about three lengths in front, in lmin 4",4-ssec —a useful gallop. Silver Coot sprinted half a mile. Rapier was going comfortably alongside Wrigley in a seven-furlong gallop on tho plough in lmin 31 4-ssee. Rapier is coming on nicely in preparation for the autumn. - Swiftray and Grconaway were not unduly hurried while doing six furlongs in lmin 19 2-sscc. Proud Knight registered lmin 4 2-sscc for five furlongs, and was going well at tho ond of the task. Rapina showed plenty of dash in beating Miss Bradbury - easily in a smart half-milo sprint. Leader nnd Tho Viscount were on terms at tho end of six furlongs, run on tho plough in lmin 20 l-ssec. Sea Gay occupied lmin 37sec for soven furlongs on tho plough. '. Red Heckle and Flair reeled off half a mile up tho Lack in 49 2-ssoc. They carried light woights, but it was a smart effort. Aspiring and Lord Thomond wont out together, but Lord Thomond broke away after passing tho niilo post and wont on at a sound pace. Aspiring was thus left to gallop aloue, and she rattled over fivo furlongs in lmin 2 3-Sscc. She carried a light boy, but showed groat brilliancy. Toperc and Amor were associated over seven furlongs on the- plough. They kept 'together all the way, Amor having i neck advantage at tho finish. The first half-mile occupied 51 _l-ssec, and the full journey was done in lmin 31 3-ssec. It was a useful gallop. There was nothing to ohooso between Chickwheat and Quarterdeck at the end of a mile on the plough, which occupied lmin 48sec. Hoylako covered six furlongs on the plough in lmin 18 l-ssec, and seemed anxious to go on further. Flaxbird soon drew clear of Poetess and was going easily at tho end of half ; a milo, run in 52 3-ssec.. Tariff sprinted three furlongs on. tho plough sn'artly in 37sec. Hazo beat Master Clarence over six furlongs on the plough in lmin 18 3-5 sec. Ravine was given easy work over six furlongs on the plough. Nightmarch had True Shafi- as mate in a half-mile sprint up tho back, done in 40scc —a smart effort. Eanelagu was going well at the end of a half-mile sprint u» the back .with' Sea Raid, run in 49 4-ssec. Paliautanui occupied 51 2-ssec for a half-milo sprint up tho back. Arrowmir, with a mate to- btlng him home over the last two furlongs, registered lmin lsec for five furlongs, tho last half-milo taking 48sec. It was a brilliant effort. ( To Awhina covered aoven furlonga easily in lmin 33sce, doing tho last half-milo in Slsec. The two-year-old Eaton Hall accompanied her over the last three furlongs.

Buoyant beat Safety over three furlongs on the plough in,.lmin 3gec.

The West Coast trainer A. J. Griffea has arrived at Riccartou with Ravine, who is engaged at , .the Canterbury Jockey Club's Meeting on Saturday. Ravino is a four-year-old gelding by Valkyrian, and created a favourable impression when he won tho doublo at Reefton last month. ■
