VALUELESS CHEQUES
GAOL TO CHECK THE CRIME

In tho Police Court ■S. G, Kailton, of Taihape, pleaded guilty to obtaining £10 at Taihape by means of a valueless cheque, £5 at Palmerston North by a similar method, and also with attempting to obtain £ 3 at Levin t>y representing himself as Robert King. Ie sentencing' tho accused to three months' imprisonment on each cl arge, the sentences to be concurrent, the Magistrate stated that comment had been made in the Supreme Court oh tho prevalence of this type of offence. In the Magistrate's opinion crime would be only stimulated if the accused were simply convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
