COMPULSORY POOL

The Commonwealth. Govcnnucnt announces Us proposals to assist the wheat industry of Australia.

These consist of a compulsory pool untl a Government' guarantee to growers of four shillings a bushel at country'sidings; also the financing of,bulk handling facilities.

The Minister of Markets, Mr. Parker Maloney, emphasised that Australia must have an organised marketing scheme in order to avoid overlapping. Tlitro would bo a pool board in each Stale, on which there would be representatives elected by tfie growers;, also a Common wealth pool board, on which the States -would bo represented. The idea is regarded most favourably by the- various States, which are now considering its adoption. The Government's plan for the Australian wheat,pool w,as outlined to-day before a conference of Ministers of Agriculture and growers' representatives. ' '■

The Prime Minister (Mr. Scullin) said that the proposed guarantee of 4s a bushel was equivalent to 4s 8d f.p.b. on the 1030-31 crop, but the amount of advances; eacli year afterwards would be determined by the board upon the economic conditions then prevailing.

Mr. Scullin added that tho aim of tho Government was to place the growers in a better economic position, add to the national income, increase the demand for farm labour, and to act as an incentive to increase 1 greatly the acreage under wheat.
