ANNUAL CONFERENCE
300 DELEGATES EXPECTED
"Nearly three hundred laymen and ministers are expected to attend the annual conference of. the Methodist Church of New Zealand, which is to' be opened at the Wesley Church, Taranaki street,- Wellington, on Thursday evening by the retiring president, the Rev. J. V. Goldie. Moat of the delegates are to arrive to-day and the remainder to-morrow. Wednesday will be devoted to committee business, and in the evening a young people* demonstration is to- be held in theVTai-a-naki Street Church. The Rev. E. P. Blamires will preside; ""tableaux, musical, and elocutionary items will be given, and an address" is to be delivered by the Rev. E. T. Olds, the incoming president. The Rev. A. N. Scotter,. 8.A., will deliver hia inaugural address at Thursday evening* session. On Friday a deputation from the conference will wait on the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup), and -in the evening an open-air meeting, the speakers at which will be the Revs. S. J.'Werren, E. Copeland, and.E. T. Cox, M.A., will be held in Lower Taranaki street.. '
A harbour excursion to Day's Bay lias been arranged for Saturday afternoon. A conference fellowship meeting will be held in,the Taranaki Street Church for the evening. The Rev. J. E.. Blamires will preside, and the speakers will be the Rev. E. T. Olds and Mr. R.C. Clarke, M.A. On Sunday afternoon a Bible Class rally will be held,-at which the president of the conference will preside, and the speakers will be Miss A. E. Sewell. (travelling secretary, Y.W.8.C.) and the Key. B. R. Hames, M.A. (travelling secretary, ■V.M.8.C.). There is to be an ordinatiou service on Monday afternoon, and a conference communion service on Tuesday morning. On Tuesday evening - the local preachers' tea and annual meeting will take- place in the Taranaki Street Church ! parlour,' and on Wednesday evening the 'combined Methodist choirs, under the con- ' ductorship of Mr. Temple White, will present at the Town Hall Haydn's oratorio "Creation," the soloists being Misfe Myra lawyer (soprano), Mr. Hubert Carter (tenor), and Mr. W. Watters (bass). The following evening a conference missionary demonstration and public tea are to take place in the Wesley School Hall, Taranaki street. On Sunday' afternoon, 2nd • March, a deaconess's dedication service will be held in the Taranaki Street Church,' when the president of ■ the conference ■will preside, and an address will be delivered by the Rev.C Eaton. .
