Flomiug was runniug well, but simply could not run fast enough at any stage of the, distance, and Golding steadily increased his lead, breasting the tape a clear 15 yards to the good in 49 4-ysec, the best time ever recorded ,at the Park, and a phenomenally fast run considering the bad conditions, , In the mile event Lernioud went ahead at the start, taking, the lead for the first lap, followed closely by Savidau and Barnes. Tho Aucklandcr .set the pace over the next two laps, lengthening his stride aud running with a very easy action. Then Barnes set off in a great sprint, and lie and Savidan wore tlienibelves out up the back straight on the last turn rouud, Lcrmond haimiug behiud within striking distance. He,looked a winner now, and was able to', pass his men on tho bend, and casu up at the finish to win by Hve yards from Barnes in 4min 29scc. Savidan faded bt.dly, aud was ten yards further back. .
