Victoria _in their second innings made 390 for eight wickets (a'Beckett 152, Oakley 43, Ponsford 54, Ellis 40 not out).
Tho recovery made by Victoria on Saturday improves that State's pros-, pects of winning tho Sheffield Shield. Only a fust innings win was required by Victoria to win tho competition, but with the scoring so low in the first innings there was the possibility of South Australia scoring a win, in which case Now South Wales would havo won the shield. The present position, however, is that Victoria appear to be certain of a win on the first innings at least. The Sheffield Shield points to dato arc:—Now South Wales 20, Victoria 18, South Australia 13, and Queensland 1.
