EDUCATION IN ART

Sir, —After seeing that exquisite drawing by Sir William Orpen, in the exhibition of paintings by contemporary artists now open in the Academy of Fine Arts, which Mr. D. A. Ewen has bought and presented to the permanent collection ; feel I must write and express my gratitude to him (and I feel sure I voice the feelings of many others) for his gift which, will confer bo much pleasure to those of us who love art and to generations o£ artlo er,s to come. To those of us who have followed and loved art in the Homeland, the possession of such a perfect drawing to have always with us is of inestimable help. It gives us the wholesome longing to go and try to do likewise, arid makes v:; keep our standard high. The whole collection is a fine one, and should do much to educate the public taste in art in this country. I, for one, am most grateful to the citizen who has made it possible' for us to go again and again and feast our eyes and minds on this gem by Orpen, —I am, etc., : ROYAL ACADEMY STUDENT.
