ALEXANDER WATSON

To read the works of Sir J. M. Barrie is always a pleasure, but to hear them told by such au artist as Mr. Alexander Watson, who gave his fifth recital in the Concert Chamber last evening, is a treat no Barrie enthusiast can afford to miss. The flrst half of Mr. Watson's programme, consisted of three selections from Barries earlier writings— "The Courting of T'nowhead's Bell" (from "Auld Licht Idylls"), "Preparing in Thrums"), Company" (from "A Window in Thrums"), and a clover sketch entitled "A Holiday in Bed"—and the delightful humour in each was excellently brought out by the reciter. A.collection of miscellaneous works was given by Mr. Watson in the second half of his programme, and proved him'to bo a master of drama and humour alike. It was unfortunate that his memory failed him in "The Crowning of Dreaming John" by John Drinkwater, but his rendering of "The Bellboy" (Kipling) fully compensated for this. Other selections given were "The Last String," by Theodore Martin, "An Ocean Waif," by Clark Russell, and a humorous sketch, "Mrs. B's Alarms," by James Payn.

To-night Mr. Watson will give Charles Dlckens's masterpiece of humour arid pathos, "Dr. Marigold's Prescriptions," as well as miscellaneous items, and on Saturday night a popular programme, including works by Kipling, Barrle, A. A. Milne, Dickens, and Shakespeare, will be given J _
