TROUBLE AT HOTEL
A commotion which attracted a crowd outside tho Now Zealander Hotel about half-past seven last evening resulted in tho appearance before Mr. E. Pago, 8.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day of Leslie William Gibbons, alias Angus Cameron, a salesman, aged 22. Gibbons pleaded guilty to using indecent language, assaulting Joseph Rains, and refusing to leave the- hotel when requested to do so. .
Senior-Sergeant Ward said that the accused went to the hotel under the influence of liquor and demanded accommodation and more liquor. This was refused, and the accused was ordered out by Mr. Rains, the manager. Gibbons struck Bains and then left tho hotel. He returned twice afterwards, and was put out both times. On the last occasion, while standing in Manners street, he used tho language complained of to Mrs. Brough, the proprietress of the hotel. "He created quite ,a disturbance, and there was a large crowd of people outside tho hotel when tho language was used," concluded the Senior-Sergeant.
Gibbons, who said he was verydrunk, was fined £2 on each of tho iirst two charges,, and convicted and discharged on the third. Default was fixed at fourteen days' imprisonment.
