UNCOMMON STITCHERY
A most uncommon and beautiful shadow stitch was found by chance, in an old market in Rome, and was once copied by a group of work girls, experts in fino embroidery, at Rieti. At first sight it looks as if the design were made by applying linen upon linen, but this is not the case. The effect is gained by working round the pattern and thus i.iising the linen itself to make a design.
