lfalf of the present year. The present steamers, are being replaced by much larger and "nitiro up-to-dato vessels, and will bo all 8000----ton steamers. Tho improved service will bo inaugurated by the sailing of the Kitano Maru from Yokohama for Australian ports on the Sth August, and this vessel will'leave Sydney on the return trip to Japan on the 241h Septembvr. The other two boats will he the Atsuta Maru and tho Kamo Maru. ALL WELL ON RANGITANA. Tho Rangltnta, which left Wellington on Saturday 'afternoon, reports by wireless that she has experienced fresh to strong southerly winds with southerly swell since leaving. She also reports that all is well on board. CANADIAN EXPLORER REPORTED. Tho Canadian Explorer, en route from HaliTax, left Panama on Friday last for Auckland, where she is due on 7th March. She is due at Wellington on 12th March. PERSONAL. Mr. F. W. Young, chief officer of the Xgatoro, is proceeding to Sydney on holiday leave, Mr. S. A. Smith having relieved him as chief officer of tho vessel. Mr. J. S. Beaton lias rejoined tho Kaimai as chief oiucer, and Mr. J. AlacNcil, who has been acting chief officer, has signed off for holidays. Mr. D. Luckett Is being appointed second olllcer of Kiwitea relieving Mr. D. W. Blacklawfl for holidays. Mr. N. W. Mac Donald, chief officer of the Niagara, is now on holidays at Auckland. Mr. F. Mowatt has rejoined tho tanker ■'Otokia as chief engineer after holiday leave. Mr. J. M'Gill, second engineer of the Kaponga, is now on holiday leave. His place lias been taken by Mr. J. G. Craig. Mr. A. M. Anstiss has joined the Tahiti as fourth engineer in place of Mr. J. T. The Otaki, from New York, arrived at Suva yesterday morning, and is to sail again this afternoon for Auckland, where she is due on Tuesday. She is due at Wellington on 25th February. PORT DARWIN LEAVES COLON. Cabled news states that tho Port Darwin, c-n route from Wellington, left Colon yesterday for London, whore she is due on Ist March. BENVENUE TO LOAD. Messrs. G. tL. Scales advise that tho Ben Line steamer Benvenue arrived at Port Pirie on Wednesday, averaging 14 knots on the voyage from Yokohama. Tho vessel will load part cargo of concentrates at Port Pirie, and will then proceed to Wellington, where she will commence loading wool. ■ From Wellington she will proceed to Napier and Wanganui, leaving the latter port on 17th March for Dunkirk, London, and Hull, via Panama.
