DAKGAVILLE, This Day.

The news was received late last night that a man named Arthur Nightingale, of Hikurangi, employed at the Avoea Coal Mine, 13 miles out, was killed, presumably by being struck on the back of the head by the handle of the winch used in connection with the loading of lorries at the pit head. No one saw the accident. No further particulars are available.

The Coroner and polico left this morning to hold an. inquest, but owing to the wet weather and the rough road are not expected to return till late tonight.
