FOR CHINA SEAS
Late yesterday afternoon the Union Company's old cargo steamers Kaitangata and . Kaiapoi, which were handed over this week to the Williamson Steam Ship Company of Hong Kong,> left Wellington for Westport where they will take bunkers. From Westport the vessels will proceed to Babaul to lift cargo for Hong Kong. On reaching China both ships will be docked* thoroughly overhauled, and repainted with the colours of their new owners. Captain Williamson, who is representing the Williamson Steam Ship Company in Now Zealand, left by the Kaiapoi for Westport where he will superintend the coaling arrangements. He will later return to Wellington. Captain Haughton and Captain Wilkins who have had considerable experience in the China seas have command of the Kaitangata and Kaiapoi, respectively, and Mr. Fox, late second officer of the Totara, is second officer of the Kaiapoi. The other officers and engineers were all enlisted in New Zealand.
