NAVAL REDUCTION
FIRST LORD NO FORECAST British Official Wiroless. (Kcecived 12th February, 11 a.m.) BUGBY, 11th February. Asked whether it was proposed to scrap four ships of the Hawkins classes ar' part of naval reductions, the First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr. A. V. Alexander, said in tho Houao of Commons that he could not at this stage of negotiations'betwecn tho Five Powers make any forecast of what possible reduction might result from them. Replying to another question, Mr. Alexander said that tho number of 50 cruisers considered needful for the British Empires had been arrived at after full investigation and it would, it was considered, meet all requirements for tho period of the agreement, which it was hoped would bo reached as tho result of the Naval Conference. Tho number was subject to the satisfactory outcome of that Conference.
