CANTERBURY MARKETS.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, 12th February. At Addington to-day beef values showed a decline on late rates of £1 to £1 10s a iiead. There was only one outsidj line forward, from South Canterbury. The*1 store sheep sale was firm, and a feature was the first appearance for the season of North Island- sheep. There were 2000 forward from Gisborne. Store lambs also sold firmly, with the exception of lighter sorts,1 which declined by Is to Is 6d a head. Fat lamb prices were equal to late rates, with a rise'of Is to Is 6d for freezing weights. Both baconers and porkers sold at advanced rates. Store Lambs.—About 16,000 were penned, and there was a ready sale except for lighter lines, which declined Is to Is 6d a head. Values were: Good rape lambs, 20s 7d to 21s 6d, medium rape lambs 17s 8d to 195,8 d, backward wether lambs, 14s to 17s, best m.s. lambs to 21s 9d, good m.s. lambs 17s to 20s 6d, ordinary 11s 9d to 10s, cull lambs 8s to 11s, good ewe lambs to 21s Bd. Store Sheep.—A big yarding of mixed quality. Values were equal to late rates. Good six and eight tooth halfbred wethers sold to 22s 6d, .'ordinary two-tooth halfbred wethers to. 19s 9d, backward two-tooth halfbred wethers to 13s 6d, merino wethers to 10s 9d, good two-tooth Romney ewes 29s to 31s, medium two-tooth Romney . ewes 26s to 28s, ordinary > two-tooth Romney ewes to 25s 6d, medium six-tooth Romney ewes to 275, ordinary two-tooth halfbred ewes to 25s lOd, medium four, six, and eight tooth halfbred ewes 22s to 24s 6d, sound mouthed halfbred ewes 18s to -21s, s. and f.m. halfbred ewes -to 16s, aged halfbred ewes to 9s, ordinary four-tooth three-quarter-bred ewes 23s to 24s 9d, s. and f.m. three-quarter-bred ewes to 17s 6d, ordinary:, four-tooth crossbred jewes,. to . 255,- failing mouthed j crossbred ewes 13s to 15s 6d. Fat Lambs.—An entry of 2550, as against 2830 last week. The .quality was much better. There was a rise in value for freezing weights of Is to Is 6d a head. Other classes were firm at recent rates. The average price was B%d to 'Jd a lb. Values were: Extra prime lambs to 31s Id, prime lambs 27s 6d to 30s, medium lambs 24s 6d to 26s 6d, light lambs 20s 6d to 23s 6d. :. ■ , ■.■■■■'..■. . Fat Sheep.—An entry of 10 races. Prices remained firm ■ except for heavy ewes, which declined; by Is a head. Values were: Extra prime wethers to 34s Id, prime wethers 30s to 325. medium wethers 26s to 295, light wethers 20s 10d_ to 255, extra prime ewes to . 20s 7d, prime ewes 23s to 255, ordinary ewes 19s to 225. light 'ewes 14s Gd to 17s 6d. Fat Cattle.—An entry of 405 head, and valiies declined by £1 to £1 10s a head for all classes. Best medium weight prime beef made from 42s to 45s per 1001b, good medium weight prime beef made from 38s to 41s per 1001b, heavy steer beef 38s to 40s Gd, good cow beef to 375, secondary ;30s to 335, light and rough to 275; Values were: Extra heavy prime steers to £22 12s Gd, heavy prime steers £17 10s to £20 10s, medium weight prime steers £15 to £18, ordinary steers £12 to £14 10s, light steers £10 to Ell 10s, show heifer £16 7s Gd, extra? prime heifers to :£14:17s 6d, prime heifers £12 10s to £14, ordinary heifers £10 to £12, light heifers £7 to £9 10s, extra prime cows to £15 2s 6d, prime cows £12 to £13 10s, medium cows £9 to £11 10s, light and aged £6 to £8 10s. i Vealers.—A small entry and a very firm sale The top price was £10 3s 6d. Good vealers made from £4 5s to £5 ss, best calves £2 13s to £3 Bs, others from 17s to 50s. v , Dairy Cattle.—An average entry of poor quality. Values were on a par with late rates for good cows and heifers, but recorded a decline of 30s to £2 per head for second-rate sorts. . Store Cattle—A medium yarding of chiefly 18-months and yearlings. Prices were equal to late rates. Potting bulls were in good demand. Fat Pigs.—A small entry and a very good sale. Prices all round improved. Values were: Choppers £3 to £7 Is, baconers £3 15s to £5 19s 6d (average price per lb 7%d to 8d), porkers 50s to 72s (average price per lb 9%d to 10d). Store Pigs.—A medium entry and prices eased considerably. Values were: Stores 28s to 455, best weaners 20s to 26s 6d, others las to 183 6d. '
