S.P.C.A.
Mii. G. Mitchell presided "over the fortnightly meeting of the S.P.C.A. on Tuesday. Mrs. John Hannah, who has recently returned from abroad, was welcomed back to the committee. A report submitted by the inspector showed that_ a large number of cases had. been dealt with since the previous meeting, and, in one instance, where cruelty had been caused, the case was of such a nature that it had been necessary to prosecute the offender. The majority of cases had been in arid around the city, but country districts had also been visited and a great deal of useful work had been performed. The question of the appointment of country inspectors was discussed at length, and it was decided to make-further inquiries in some of the larger country centres in order to ascertain if sufficient support would be forthcoming to warrant the appointment of inspectors in the country districts.
