CHRISTCHURCH, 23rd December. Ryan and Griffiths, the Australian swimmers, appeared at a carnival at the Tepid Baths to-night. They won all their races with apparent ease. Griffiths swam an exhibition race over 220 yards, paced by relays of local swimmers. He covered the distance in 2min 27 l-ssec, cutting 1 4-5 sec off D. P. Lindsay's record. Results: 440 Yards Invitation Handicap.—N Ryan (Bsec) 1, A. T. F. Stokes (Ssec) 2.' Won by 20 yards. Time, Smin 35sec. 220 Yards Invitation Handicap.—GriEfiths (scr) 1, A. T. F. Stokes (scr) 2. won by 5 yards. Time, 2min SOsec.
