NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK WORK
The New Plymouth course was in good order on Saturday morning, but there was not a great deal of fast work, says the "News."
Orapai had too much pace for Espion over a half-mile effort on the trial grass. The task was accomplished. in 51%'sec—j not bad for maiden performers. The Swell (Johnson), Desbroney (Drinkwater), and Bonogne (Alexander), bowled along at three-quarter pace on the plough. Desbroney is coming on fast and hit out boldly. Opa (Drinkwater) was given a couple of rounds on the inner grass. The old chap ran a good race at Hawera, and may beat more than beat him at New Plymouth.
Peg Black (Johnson) was not asked to go against the clock. She is improving -with every race, and she is expected by many to lose her maiden status before the end of the holiday meetings. Omeo (Alexander) and Whenuanui (Eager) moved away from the six furlong post together, but galloped only in patches, and took lmin 21sec to' cover the distance. Omeo was doing best at the finish. . v
Manly (Ray) was allotted an easy task of a couple of rounds on the inner grass. He was anxious to go faster, and his races at Hawera have had no ill effect on him. Gold Dawn and Singer were not asked to do much.
Hipo (Goulsbro) had a slight advantage of Oration (George) at the end of sis furlongs run in lram 17 4-ssec. Mint Leaf (George) enjoyed the sting out of the going and showed the way home to Rotckare (Goulsbro) over seven furlongs in lroin 37see. The Catmint gelding is apparently improving with racing.
