TRAINING AT ELLERSLIE

Wintry conditions prevailed for training, work at Ellerslio this morning. Heavy rain fell during the night, and though it cleared somewhat when work commenced there were several showers before breakfast. The conditions were fine after breakfast. The course proper, with the trestles about 35 feet on 1 from the rails, was available for fast work, and the going was inclined to cut out a bit. The most outstanding performances were those of Star Stranger and Corinax among the Cup horses and Aspiring and Lady Quex among the Railway Handicap candidates. On the course proper Hunting Day covered seven furlongs alone, in lmin 35 2-ssec. He went well throughout. Thursby and Kawainga jumped off together at the seven-furlong post, and after covering the first threo furlongs in 38 3-ssec, completed their task in lmin 36 4-ssec, with Thursby in front. King Emerald and Eager Rose were on terms over six furlongs iv lmin 19 •l-ssec. *
Gold Money was not doing her best to run a similar journey in lmin 24 3-5 sec.
rffHonour was always going better than Jaloux over seven furlongs. The last six furlongs took lmin 23sec. Clockwork and Importer jumped away from the mile barrier, and after covering the first half in 51 4-ssec, finished up in lmin 51 *-ssec. Importer was in front when the post was reached. Good Idea strode home from the fivefurlong post in lmin 12sec.
Hannibal beat Pedestal by several lengths at the end of six furlongs, which occupied lmin 21 4-ssec. Praise was going better than Greenaway over five furlongs, which took lmin 7see.
There was nothing between Tetrachate and Praetor at the end of. a six furlongs task, done in Imin 21 3-ssec.
Knightlike and Cylinder were together at the finish of five furlongs in Imin S 4-ssec.
War Officer finished in front of Brampton and Neil over six furlongs in Imin 22 3-ssee.
Biddy's Boy, on the outside, showed to better advantage thau Tenterden and Awaken while sprinting home from the four-furlong pos* in 53 2-ssoe. After commencing .slowly from the six-furlong post Vallar completed the last five furlongs in lmin 8 l-ssee, doing it easily. Hespirator was doing his best to traverse six furlongs in lmin 27sec. It took Chesterman lmin 26 l-ssee to complete a similar task.
_The two-year-olds Dunraven and drastic ran half a mile in 54 l-ssec. Ibe former pleased most. The Railway Handicap candidates Silverrmne, Lady Quex, and Toxeuma jumped away at the sis-furlong post and after running the first three furlongs m 38 l-ssee completed their task m Imm 20 2 ; ssec.
