EDUCATION NEXT YEAR

'FRAUGHT WITH POSSIBILITIES'

The Education Board's last meeting of the year was held to-day. There were present: Messrs. 3\ Forsyth (chairman), A. W. Hutchings, J. Stonehouse, C. H. Nicholls, A. C. Blake. A. Donaia, E. M'Leod, W. D. Pike, D. M' Callum, J. J. ClaTk, Dr. J. M'llwraith (senior inspector), and G. L. Stewart (secretary).

In thanking the members of theboard and Mr. Stewart and his staff for their co-operation with him, and wishing the compliments of the season, 'Mr. Forsyth said that the board's year had been a very full one, and the New Year was fraught with all sorts of possibilities as far as education was concerned. He anticipated that they would hear early iv the New Year what the new system was to be. From several recent actions of the Minister he rather anticipated the finding of the Commission. He believed that the present system was a very excellent one, as the product of it had proved, -particularly during tho war. The old Standard VII. system was excellent, and he believed that something on those lines would meet tho bill. However, the committee was now going through tho country hearing (at a rapid rate) the ideas of those interested as to what the system ought to be. Mr. Forsyth said he himself did not feel particularly enthusiastic about giving evidence before the committee, as he did not think it would lead any great distance, nor, in his opinion, was the constitution of the committee one that would give the best results. The chairman concluded with thanks to Dr. M'Hwraith and tho inspectors for their great help to the board and with the season's wishes to them. Dr. M'lhvraith had proved himself the man for the position.

Mr. Stewart,, on behalf of the staff, thanked Mr. ITorsyth for his friendly references, and Dr. M'llwraith also replied, mentioning the assistance the staff had given him at all times. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Forsyth expressing the board's high appreciation of hip work was moved by Mr. Btoka gag jswtiejl Elli acclamation.
