NINE PEOPLE BELIEVED DEAD

NEW YORK, 10th December.

At least-nine persons, consisting of five men and four women, were killed ■when a series of seven explosions of an unknown "origin wrecked aud burned the Pathe sound film studio. Seventyfivo people were in the building, over twenty being all ready to start recording, when the first explosion occurred It was rapidly followed by sis more. The artists attempted to rush the exists as did fifty lightly-clad girls from the upstairs dressing-room, but the swiftlymounting, spreading flames prevented many from escaping. Large quantities ot fire apparatus and also ambulances were rushed to the scene, but it was twenty-five minutes before the firemen were able to enter on account of the intense heat. There were scenes of utter confusion, women screaming and shivering with cold, until sheltered nearby. The firemen ana others then began the removal of the dead and injured to the morgues and hospitals.
