CROQUET NOTES
(By "Peg.") Great preparations are in hand for the gala day at Kelburn Croquet Club on Friday, and, given fine.weather, such a func-tion-cannot.but be a success. It is hoped to raise a substantial sum towards the expense of sending the New Zealand team to Australia,,. The Christchurch clubs., were very successful with their afternoon, making £31 for the fund, and the Wellington croquet people are out to better that. The Hataitai Club is having a cake stall, and the Wellington Club ladies are helping to •provide' the" afternoon tea. The Waimarie and Ngaroma Clubs are to have a "Paddy's market" stall, and will be assisted by donations from all the other clubs. Anything saleable will be welcome at this stall, and" members generally who have vegetables, fruit, flowers, cakes, jams, pickles; or f ancywork are asked to bring the goods along. Mrs. W; T. Strand, Lower. Hutt, has donated some choice hydrangea plants from her well-known collection. The Kelburn Club is serving afternoon tea and ice cream, the former to be on the buffet principle, the tea only being served and the food set on one long table so visitors may help themselves and save time. There will be many croquet competitions commencing at 1 p.m., and all these must be completed by 4 p.m., so that the prizes can be awarded in good time. No charge is being made for admission, and if the weather is wet the party will be held on Saturday. There is a demand by beginners for sec-ond-hand mallets, and if members have a discarded one to spare the "Paddy's market" stall will be glad to dispose of it for the Australian team fund.
