NOVEMBER OPERATIONS

The monthly meeting o£ the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held on Friday.

There were present Lady Hoskin'g in the chair, Mesdames Hall, Symou, Davidson, M'Eldowhey, Eiehelbaum, Luke, Hislop, Hodson, Prcscott, Ralph, Leach, Hoggard, Corkhill, Collins, Tythe-Brown, Ilott, Misses Cameron, Nathan, and Miss Barnett. Apologies were received from Mesdames Aiken, White, Hunter, Paterson, Bririgans, Jerram, Richardson, Burgess, and Pavtou.

The Plunkct nurses' report gave the following particulars:—

Analysis of feeding: Babies wholly breast fed, 99, babies partially breast-fed, 14; babies artifically fed, 14. Expectant mothers, new cases, 42; return visits to ante-natal clinic, 249; expectant mothers still under supervision, 209.

The holiday season having commenced, the nurses are being called upon to make milk for travelling mothers, sometimes twice in the same day. This is a great boon to parents, for they can travel from one end of the country, to the other and be sure of fresh food for the baby.

The nurses thank the Indies who drove them during the month to their cases, and also the following for gifts: Mesdames Parton and Wilson for flowers, Mesdames J. Kirkcaldie, Needham, James, Cruickshank, Smith, Biisbridge, Cladwell, "Doughty, Sutton, Turner, Martin, and Lady Buckleton for parcels of clothing, and Sirs. Tythe Browu for wool.

The matron of Karitane Hospital reported: Admissions for the month, six mothers and fifteen babies; length of stay in hospital of discharged cases: One mother and two babies for one day, one mother and one baby for two days, one baby for five days, one mother and one baby for eleven days, one mother and one baby for twelve days, one mother and two babies for two weeks, one baby for six weeks, one baby for seven weeks, one baby for two months, two babies for three months.

There were 410 visitors to the hospital. The matron thanks the following for gifts: Woollen singlets. Miss Jones; bibs, Miss Cowan; fruit, Mrs. Doctor; flowers, Mrs. Tonks and Mrs. -Morey; lettuces, Mrs. Gibbs; renco, New Zealand Bennett Company, and Mrs. Morey for sewing one day a week at the hospital. The treasurer acknowledges the following donations and subscriptions: Mrs. M'Douald and anonymous £2 2s, Mrs. Cable £2, . Drs. Bakewell and Paterson, Mr. Walker, Messrs. Coulls, Sommerville, and Wilkie, Mesdames Brandon and Robertson £1 Is each, Mrs. Hislop £1, Mesdames Morrison and O'Brien 5s each, box money £3 18s. Received from sub-com-mittees: Eastbourne, Mesdames W. Hogg, D. Hogg, and Isaacs 5,-s each; Wadestown, Mrs. Hand-Newton £1 Is.
