SANDERS CUP TRIAL
CLYDE'S DECISIVE WIN
Keen interest was taken last evening in the first of the trial races to decide which boat Is to represent Wellington in the Sanders Cup contest at Auckland next h??w"l C!yde< Wellingt°°'B representative last season, scored a decisive win gaimng-the lead on the initial run from the Jermngham buoy to the buoy off Shae Point, at the head of Evans Bay, and in? creasing her advantage on the beat back to Jermngham.
Lhe-boats and their skippers were-— Uyde (N. Kowntrec), All Black (F. H ar . len), Miss Josephine (D. M'Kenzie) Weli? Sn y »• &■ D- BIair)« Wellesiey I. (R Bolland), Peggy (B. Tonks). Spinnakers were soon up as the boats started before the light nor'-westerly at 6.32 p.m. The Clyde carried her spinnaker to port, and all the others had theirs to starboard. Keeping in the middle of the bay the Clyde soon went into the lead and, at the Shag Point buoy, she was well ahead. The times at the mark wereClyde, 6hr Stain 40sec; All Blacfc, 6hr 56 mm Sosec; Peggy, 6hr 57min 25sec; Wellesley 1., Wellesley IL, Miss Josephine, 6hr 37miu 30sec.
All sailed the same course on the beat up to the Shark Bay buoy, a feature of this leg of the race being the performance of the AVellesley 11., which came through into third place some distance up. The Miss Josephine also did well, and neariug the mark she displaced the Wellesley 11. The rounding times were: Clyde, 7hr 28min 25sec; All Black. 7hr 30min 32sec; Miss Josephine, 7hr 30niin 33 sec; Wellesley IL, 7hr 31min 55sec; Peggy, 7lir 32min losec; Wellesley 1., 7hr 33min 32sec.
There was no change in the positions on the beat up to Jeruingham, but the Clyde drew still further ahead of the others, finishing at 7hr 40mm 45sec. The other finishing times were: All Black, 7hr 43min S)sec; Miss Josephine, 7hr 44min SOsec; Wellesley 11., 7hr 45min 15sec; Wellesley 1., 7hr 46min 55sec; Peggy, 7hr 47min 32sec.
The trial was regarded by the selectors as most satisfactory from all points of view. The next is to be field, -weather permitting, to-morrow evening at 6 o'clock.
