WOODVILLE PROSPECTS

TO-MORROW'S PROGRAMME

Racing will commence to-morrow at Woodville at 11.45 a.m. A good deal of rain has fallen in the district, but the tracks had become very hard, and they could stand it. The course is one of the best, if not actually the best, country course in this part of the Dominion, and for that reason meetings at Woodville are popular with racing folk. Owners signify their appreciation by racing good-class horses, and at to-morrow's gathering the form will be of added interest in its bearing on the important holiday gatherings to follow. Wellington patrons of the meeting will be enabled to attend the gathering by leaving by to-morrow's daylight Limited, and motoring from Palmerston North in time for the first race. Special trains from the surrounding districts will be at the service of local racegoers. Proceedings will open with the

MANGATUA HURDLES, of 130 soys; one mllo and a half.

Fine Acre and Delude should dispute favouritism. Both raced well at Feilding and Delude may do better, for he will have an experienced horseman in A. H Burt in the saddle to-morrow. There is a possibility of a surprise from the group of lightweights, of whom Vinella may be the best, but form points strongly to Fine Acre and Delude. TRIAL PLATE, of 100 soys; six 'furlongs ■ weight 8.11. Pedestal Portray • tthakaue Grattus Arrowzone Jokeform Callamait . Dancin" Star Kangitoa,' •■ Habit Platlna ' Grecian Tlgrano Lady Gen Cook There is every indication that the Fordell representative, Platina, will be favourite, backers being on the look-out for auother Cadland. Pedestal and Grattus both_ raced well enough at Feilding, and Grecian and Tigrano are a pair of likely improvers. Grattus and Grecian read well unless Platina proves really good. As she has yet to start, and is trained on a private track, nothing is known about her capabilities.

Spearmiss on a course that is just the type for her should be favourite. Her form behind Chide, In the Shade, and Rabbi stands inspection. Blimp should be favoured by the conditions, but next to Spearmiss one cannot go past Mountain. Heath, who was unlucky at Levin. Spearmiss and Mountain Heath should divide favouritism.

The acceptors number three over tlic official safety limit, and it is to be hoped -scratchings obviate a division. Kuightlike has a chance, but Royal Parade, with 141b less, ou Riccarton form, appeals more. Glenartney was smart last year, and, although he failed at Marlon" early in the spring, should be very dangerous in this field. Auda has been galloping exceptionally well at Hastings, and Head Serang, Repay, and Cuticle have also good track form. Royal Parade, Glenartney, and Auda should show up.

OETB HANDICAP, of 200 sots; six furlongs.

st-lb. 7 6 7 5

Star Stranger is racing inside his distance, and the long straight may trouble Kaihoro. Admiral Drake, decently ridden, and Atholepear look the likely ones. Royal Duko has shown no form lately. Moa Bird, Aspiring, and Veronese are "three smart sprinters, with feather weights. On this

I course, however, Admiral Drake and Atholspear should beat them.

or Navarre 7 5 Cylinder' no doubt will be a good favourite, and what beats him should win. Tenterden is understood to be good, but he has yet to have a race. Kahikatoa at Keilding raced well enough in spite of difficulties to deserve some mention.

Count Palatine has his share of weight at 9.G, but he is a good three-year-old, and may carry it with distinction. Austerity and Chopin are a solid pair, and Masher will be suited better by this course than that at Feilding. Gold Bag is a possible lightweight who may surprise. Masher, Count Palatine, and Gold Bag may do best.

Toxeuma lias a good horse's weight, but he represents class. ~ On Otaki form there should be little between Rameses and Maui, although the figures favour Rameses. This is the type of race to sut Discourse, who was noticed showing up well at the turn in the Levin Cup. Toxeuma, Maui, and Discourse should do best.
