DUNEDIN, 9th December

A well-known farmer, James Smith, o£ Barnego, near Balolutha, while trout fishing on the !Pomahaka Eiver yesterday with a partjr of anglers, became separated from his companions, and when he did not arrive at an. appointed meeting place in the eveniug fears were entertained for his safety. Search parties were organised, and this afternoon the missing man's rod" and line were found. Dragging operations were commenced, and Smith's body was later recovered in about 20 feet of water.
