PETONE COURT

Messrs. G. D. M'Ewen and A. Coles, J.P.s, presided over a sitting of the' Petone Court yesterday. B. O'Connell and L. Maloney were each convicted and ordered to pay costs (10s) for smoking in a non-smoking carriage. For driving a motor-cycle and sidecar without lights, E. A. Usmar was fined 10s. A fine of 5s was imposed upon C. E. Kainsford for cycling without lights. N. V. Phillips was fined 10s for hay- j ing no warning device on his motorcycle, and £1 for driving at a dangerous speed. ° Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following undefended civil eases:— F. E. Westou r. B. Welch, £4; Sims Hardware Co., Ltd., v. John Eendall, £15 15s 9d; Public Trustee as executor of will of late James Curtis, v. Victor Tolcliard, £14 6s; George Findlay v. A. J. O'Connell, £3. ' ' Judgment was given for the plaintiff for £7 4s 4d in the defended case of A. Hill v. T. P. O'Neill. '
