• Catalogues agregating 37,486 packages, including 0700 chests dusts, were offered- at Calcutta on 4th December. Average prices realised were: Common Pekoe, Souchong, 5 annas 9 pies to 6 annas 9 pies; clean common broken Pekoe Souchong, 6 annas to 6 annas 3 pies; even black leaf Pekoe, 8 annas to 8 annas 8 pies. The offerings comprised a useful selection, quality showing an improvement. The market opened to a better tone. Bidding was more confident for all plain medium common broken grades. Liquoring teas had..better, competition. All descriptions suitable for the Persian demand were a firm feature. Leaf grades were quiet, Orange Pekoes declining 3 pies. Dusts met fair competition, good liquoring kinds being fully firm. Other descriptions showed considerable irregularity.
