At the Stadium there was a terrific hitting contest in the lightweight championship. Norman Gillespie' (9s IVjlb), the title holder, beat Jack Roberts (9st 71bj, of Newcastle, the referee stopping the contest in the ninth round, and awarding the decision to Gillespie, who floored his opponent, and was himself floored several times in a bout which was the fiuvcest for years.
