STREET WIDENING
COMPENSATION CLAIM
Land taken by the Wellington City Council in 1926 for street-widening purposes was the subject of a claim made in the Compensation Court to-day by Sophia Ann Mary Ethel Quinlan, married woman, of Wellington. The property taken has a frontage to Willis street, nearly opposite the V.M.C.A., of 34ft 6in and 3 depth of 10ft Oin, making up 1.33 perches. The value of the piece was claimed to be £345, and the depreciation iv value of the remaining land and loss in rent due to the reduced letting value of the shops set £o£- from the street was estimated at 5.280, the total amount of the claim being £625.
Mr. Justice Blair presided, and with him as assessors were Mr. H. E. Leighton (for the claimant) and Mr. J. M Dale (for the respondent). Mr. E. P. Hay appeared in support of the claim, and Mr. J. O'Shea (City Solicitor) for the City Council. The evidence of several valuers was called.
