BRITISH SAILORS' SOCIETY
(To the Editor.)
fc'r.—May I have space through the medium ot your widely-read columns to appeal to the good people of Wellington and district to assist with gifts of cash or goods to help the British Sailors' Society this Christmas to provide their usual festivities for the men of the sea who will be far from home and friends at such a happy and joyous time? This^ society is a branch of the oldest sailors society in the world, whose head branch was formed in 1818, and is worldwide. The Wellington branch is entirely voluntary, no salary or honorarium being paid to any of its staff. Picnics are held every holiday, social evenings twice weekly, and concerts once weekly. Tea is provided every Sunday and supper every night for the men of the sea. Our motto is to provide a home away from home, and the letters received from the men show that the effort in this direction is not without result.
Gifts will, as in previous years, be gratefully acknowledged, and may be sent to the society's rooms, 57, Cuba street, or will be collected by rinciug telephone 14-645.—1 am. etc.. ft P ADMAN, V Jlon, Secretary,
