LEAGUE OF NATIONS

NEW ZEALAND UNION

The Dominion Executive of ■ the League of Nations. Union met on Friday afternoon. The Howard League for Penal Reform wrote calling attention to conditions reported to exist in connection with the transport- of French convicts, and it w»s resolved to send' letters on the subject *o the British League of Nations Union and also to the League of Nations in Geneva, expressing the opinion that some inquiry should be made as to- the treatment of prisoners generally. The World Conference for International Peace through Religion wrote suggesting the appointment of a New Zealand committee to arrange for representation at the Conference proposed to be held in 1931. A letter from the N.S.W. Branch' of the^ Australian League of Nations Union reported certain activities that might apply to New Zealand, and the secretary was then instructed to obtain further information in reference -to them. The question of the instruction of-the. young in the-bbjects and work, of the League of Nations was again discussed, .the president reporting an interview with ■ the Director of Education.
