POSED AS DETECTIVE
DRUNKENNESS NO EXCUSE
(By Telegraph.—Press Association ) AUCKLAND, This Day." Charles Henry Whitehead (29), a laborer, was to-day fined £10, with the alternative of one month ia gaol, for posing as a detective. The police stated that two men entered a Chinese shop last night. Tho accused stated that they were sent by the chief detective to-sec if .there was any gambling or opium smoking. One of the Chinese became auspicious and telephoned to the police headquarters. When the police arrived the two men had disappeared, but Whitehead was arrested later The accused said that he was the worsu for liquor, and the affair was only a joke... The Magistrate (Mr. Hunt) said that the offence was a very serious one, and drunkenness was no excuse.
