CRICKET TEST TRIAL
AUSTRALIAN TEAMS MEET
HEAVY INITIAL SCORES
SYDNEY, 6th December
A cricket test trial match was commenced on Sydney Cricket Ground today between Eyder's ana Woodfull's teams: The weather was perfect and seven thousand were present. Eyder won the toss. The opening partnership of Ponsford and Jackson of 278 runs was the feature of the day's play. Both batsmen passed the century. Jackson, who was in delightful mood, made many graceful and masterly hits. His 182 was compiled in 187 minute, and included twenty-seven 4's and one sixer. On the- contrary, Ponsford displayed restraint throughout for his 131, which occupied 242 minutes, and included ten 4's and one sixer. ' Both men virtually threw away their wickets, being caught in the outfield while attempting big hits. Eyder was caught in a similar fashion. Marks and M' Cabe batted attractively. The match so far has revealed no bowler of outstanding ability. Six were tried, including Wall. Hornibrook, Fairfax, Blackie, Bradman, and Burrows; the latter is a Tasmanian. All of them were- flogged unmercifully. Ellis and Burrows replaced Oldfield and a'Beckett in Woodfull's team. Following are the detailed scores:— RYDER'S TEAM.—First Innings. . Ponsforel ... '. .................. 131 Jackson _ jg2 Marks, not out 64 Eydor " C M'Cabe ...•„."".;: 35 Horrocks (West Australia), not out) 8 Extras .... 7 Total for four wickets .... 433 The fielding was of-the highest order.
