LORD LLOYD'S PROTEST
CYNICAL SACRIFICE
LONDON, 6th December. Lord Lloyd, Jate British High Commissioner in Egypt, at an Empire Union luncheon, said that he was sent to Egypt to guard certain vital interests and maintain tho 1923 declaration in its entirety, with the result that disturbance and turbulence were replaced by peace and growing friendliness. The reserved points were maintained without a shot being fired. He protested against the cynicism and levity with which the present Government proposed to abandon a vital strategic position, sacrifice our position* m great markets which had" been built "P by the courage and enterprise of Britons, and abandon the helpless masses who always looked to Britain tor protection and emancipation. I The same Government," he said ! which carelessly throws away real and existing markets in the East, is willing to sell our country's soul iii order to buy purely problematical boviet trade an the west."
