SANDERS CUP TRIALS
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—To-day I was asked to place mr and Motor-boat Association to send Wellington's hope to Auckland for the Sanders Cup contest. I fake a very great interest in th ls event, and . Ling very to when and where they were to be held L iTu on2 ed ,that the fir6t tyro would re rnaKl theSeeOndiQE-^Vl c The W P.Y.M.B.A. are professedly solicitmg public support, yet are using Sun. day for the trials, and for fear of offending the public are sailing the races on out-ot-sight courses-and the Sanders Cup is the only mterproviucial yachting contest of any importance. The WPTMBA evidently want only fiuaiieiut support ' ' Among many other old sports, I take the greatest interest in this event, and of course, desire to witness the trials, hut our interest is evidently not wanted, while the iew shillings we can spare are. Well, Sir the former I aur forced to bottle up and the latter I will keep in my pocket And Lam afraid that many other old" yachting enthusiasts will do the same, unless the association change their methods - —J- am, etc., * , . "OLD SPORT." 6th December. + [It is stated ou behalf of the selectors that the decision to commence the trials to-morrow was influenced by the fact that the Pare'mata nominee, Miss Josephine could not be brought down until the weekend, and also by the undesirability of forcing clubs to postpone races which had been arranged for some weeks. Although the selectors are of the opinion that trials m the evening on week-days are generally unsatisfactory on account" of tailing wind, it is not to be taken for granted that all future trials will be held on Sundays, or that the courses set for to-morrow's races will be used throughout the series.] "
