In llie queer old days, Santa Claus had a sledge drawn by four brown reindeer, and lie visited collages with quaintly thatched roofs, and little huts set in the snow. Then collages grew lo caslles and huts to houses. Santa Clans went by air, his reindeer flying, and dropped his treasures down the chimneys. And now, when children are like the sands of the sea in number, and reindeer, even flying ones, are far, far too slow, Santa'-Claus travels in an aeroplane! How the children of long ago would.; have marvelled . . . and stared . . . at the sight of the great grey thing, swooping and turning as easily as a bird. But we have seen so many lately . . . so many . . . that we scarcely'bother to raise our he*ads when one goes sweeping past. ... - . Ah, but with Santa Glaus inside... . . that is a different matter. Old, old legend and silver—new invention—they come together in 1929, when Sjanta goes up in an aeroplane .... . '. It makes Christmas feel terribly near, doesn't it?
