FOR THE VERY LITTLE ONES
Marigold was a tiny: baby ell: who wished cvor so hard to got out into the wid'o world and mtxko friends with the many small girls she had peeped at on moonlight evenings When sho was allowed out of her toadstool home. Very tiny, baby elves are only allowed out of their homes occasionally, in case they should get magicked away by somo bad fairy who wished ill to the elf king. "When .you grow bigger," said Marigold's mother, "you will be able to roam about as you like at moonlight and oven to go into the houses of human children when they are asleep." •Why can't I get old at once?" said Marigold; '• "I: want to go right out into theworld now!" And she got so cross and naughty that at last Spifkins, her nurse, in sheer desperation said:— ■. . "If you find a puff ball and blow it hard enough to blow all its powdery feathers away you will grow old quite quickly and bo able to go and see the earth children when you like." So the delighted Marigold went oft' to look for puff, balls and she Olew and blew them, but she could not get all of the feathery bits away. "Never mind!" said Spifkins. "Try next day!" The artful Spifkins know all the timo that.Marigold could not blow the puff balls to pieces until she got older and ; stronger. But Marigold' spent so niueh time blowing at puff: balls every evening that' the time passed very quickly and before she realised what had happened she had grown into a big girl elf and was able to wander about the world on moonlight nights as long as ever she wished. -Don't you think that Nurse Spifkins was'very,-very wise?
