Yesterday's meeting of the Ehodes Scholarship Committee of Selection was ths last at vhieh. thp Governp.--Genera' (Sir Charles Fergusson) will preside. Gilray moved, and Professor Robertson seconded, a motion that the minutes record the committee's great appreciation of the exceedingly kind and helpful way in which His Excellency has discharged his duties as chairman during his term of office.

The Lyall Bay and Island Bay Surf and Life Saving CJlubs have been granted permission by the City Council to hold beach carnivals during the Christinas and New Year holidays, on condition that no professional showmen are employed, and a.ll side-shows are approved by the police.
