FREE KINDERGARTEN
GRADUATION CEREMONY
VALUE OF THE WORK
The year"s graduates of the Wellington Free Kindergarten Association received their certificates in the Sydney Street Schoolroom on Wednesday. Mrs. W. li. Davidson, president, was in the chair, and Mrs. D. C. Peacock, Miss Enid Wilson (principal), and Dr. M'llwraith (senior inspector, Wellington Education district) w<ve also on the platform. Mrs. Davidson extended a warm welcome to those present, and emphasised the benefits of. kindergarten. The most important reason for establishing kindergartens, she said, was that during the period of life lrom babyhood to five years, the real foundations of life and health were laid and kindergartens helped both parent and child. The training of those who directed the kindergartens, continued Mrs. Davidson, was most important, and was of great value to the girls themselves. The VV ellmgton Kindergarten Association now Had seven kindergartens under its care, and the first one to be built on model lines was erected at Berhampore last year. Ine association received a capitation grant, from the Government, and donations from the City Council and Macarthy Trust but eacn year approximately £000 had to be raised by public subscription in connection with general fund expenditure only For tins money the association had to detW ,°" n S suPP°V t?, ls, but she was sure they would never fail siii'ti, l V > SOn (P, ril! ci l)al> >" 'her report, said that it was their endeavour to introduce fresh stimulus to the training The AV^V 0"? «'^ Christclim-ch which most hL '1 Staf h, ad, atte»de<l hid been most helpful, as had the course of live lerMta IT * ™e r lHn^» by Mr. Jenner, i«n,.
