The wool sales closed with ;i firm tone. To-day's offering comprised 11,958 bales, of which 4542 bales were from New Zealand. All descriptions realised full recent rates, but withdrawals were numerous j owing to holders' firm limits. j New Zealand crossbreds again sold readily, mostly to Yorkshire. Best greasy halfbreds made up to 17d, tine halfbreds, slipe lambs, O.M.C. Eclipse, up to 19J,2d. The total quantity catalogued for the series was 125,500 bales, of which 109,000 were sold, the Continent taking about 60,000 and. the Home trade nearly all the remainder. The Australian wool sold amounted to 59,500 bales and New Zealand 35,000 bales, 17,500 being held over. The catalogues included a capital selection of new clip Merinos, for which French, buyers, particularly Alsatians, competed keenly. The Germans were more reserved than usual, but were showing increasing interest as the sale'progressed. The bulk of the crossbred offerings consisted of slipes, which went chiefly to the Home traded Prices, compared with October closing rates, show that Merinos and all good combing wools generally advanced TVx to 10 per cent. Broader and lighter sorts, which were chiefly sold to Yorkshire, advanced 10 per cent. Seoureds improved throughout, closing 10 per cent. up. Greasy crossbreds, which were in limited supply, and halfbreds were 7V& per cent, higher, while medium and lo%v qualities firmed to 10 per cent, higher. Slipes, which formed the bulk of the New Zealand offerings, were generally firm throughout, but fine halfbreds and three-quarter breds were from par to 5 per cent, easier, while lambs advanced 5 per cent. .The next series of auctions will open on 21st January.
