"NO SEMBLANCE OF TRUTH"
Mr. W. Bromley, the president of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council, made the following statement to a "Post" reporter to-day:— "The Eeform candidate in. the Hutt by-election is reported in your issue of yesterday as having stated: 'Before the Labour men enter Parliament they give to the Trades Union Council a sealed letter containing their resignation, which was made effective if they overstepped the mark or got out of control.5
"As one who for six years occupied the position of secretary of the Trades Council, and who at present' occupies the position of president, I am quite unaware of any such procedure, or anything approaching it. The remarkable thing about it is that Mr. Johnston does not state that he believes that to be the position, but that he knows it is the position. I think it advisable that the electors in the Hutt should have first-hand information that there is absolutely no semblance of truth iii this assertion."
